rest in preparation for your late flight to Nairobi. Transfer back to the airport late in the day for your 10PM flight to Nairobi.
Day 3 Monday- Nairobi: Arrival in Nairobi where you will be met and transferred to your hotel. Optional afternoon excursions available. Modern Nairobi is still
the safari capital of the Africa, but the modern world has quickly
caught up with the city. A frontier town no more, Nairobi has become one
of Africa's largest, and most interesting cities. Nairobi is a city that
never seems to sleep. The entire town has a boundless energy, and is
thriving place where all of human life can be found. This is a place of
great contrasts where race, tribe and origin all become facets of a
unique Nairobi character. Nairobi is the cosmopolitan capital of Kenya and the main economic hub of East Africa. Overnight BB basis at the Stanley Hotel
(B)
Day 4 Tuesday Samburu / Shaba: Drive to Shaba National Park arriving in time for lunch.
The Lodge basks in a legacy bequeathed by Joy Adamson of the 'Born
Free' fame. She was wife of a prominent conservationist, George
Adamson, who was a senior game warden of the area. Joy raised her
adopted animals next door to the current Sarova Shaba Lodge's site.
She first came to Kenya in 1910 with her first husband whom she latter
divorced. In 1956, George, in his capacity as the game warden was
compelled to kill a man-eating lioness, which had three newly born
cubs. So orphaned before they could imprint on any animate object,
they were taken in by Joy Adamson who became their foster mother. She
named them 'Lustica', 'Big One', and 'Elsa'. She later found that she
could not handle three fast growing lionesses; therefore she
reluctantly sent the cubs to Blydrop, Rotterdam when they were five
months old. The park is home to a host of wildlife unique to the area including Reticulated Giraffe, Grevy’s Zebra, Gerenuk and Beisa Oryx.
This afternoon you will take a game drive then enjoy dinner and overnight Sarova Shaba
(B,L,D).
Day 5 Wednesday Samburu / Shaba: After a leisurely breakfast take an exhilarating game drive in the park ending up with a bush lunch served on the banks of the Nyiro River. In the afternoon venture forth again into the park in search of Africa’s famed big game. Dinner and overnight Sarova Shaba
(B,L,D).
Day 6 Thursday Lake Nakuru: After breakfast you will be leaving Shaba and
will be driven to Lake Nakuru in the Rift Valley. After having lunch
you will be going o ut on an afternoon game drive. Situated in the heart of the Rift Valley, Lake Nakuru is one of Kenya’s most famous soda lakes.
Lake Nakuru Nakuru provides the
visitor with one of Kenya’s best known images. Thousands of flamingo,
joined into a massive flock, fringe the shores of this soda lake. A
pulsing pink swathe of life that carpets the water, the flamingo are a
breathtaking sight.
The lake has become world famous for these birds, who visit the lake to
feed on algae that forms on the lake bed. They move back and forth,
feeding and occasionally and spectacularly taking to flight, filling the
sky over the lake with color. The lake is extremely variable in size
changing from 5 up to 30 sq kilometers in area. Nakuru has more than just
flamingos. This is a major National Park and an important sanctuary for
Rhino. Both Black and White Rhino are found here, and are often seen
resting under acacias by the Lake shore. The park abounds with game. There are huge herds of waterbuck, zebra,
buffalo, the endangered Rothschild Giraffe and more. This is one of your
best chances of seeing Leopard in Kenya, and there are several large
prides of Lion. Dinner and overnight Lion Hill Lodge (B,L,D)
Day 7 Friday Maasai Mara: After breakfast continue to the Maasai Mara.
After lunch you will have an afternoon game drive. Dinner and overnight Mara Sarova Lodge
(B,L,D).
Day 8 Saturday Maasai Mara: Full day in the Masai Mara with morning and
after noon game drives. Considered the jewel in Kenya’s wildlife crown, the Maasai Mara National Reserve forms the
northern most part of the great Serengeti-Mara ecosystem. Throughout the year the Mara’s undulating grasslands host a never ending pageant of passing predators and plains game. Covering some 1039
square miles the Maasai Mara is home to a wide variety of game, including the majestic elephant and one of the highest concentrations of predators anywhere in Africa, especially the king of the beasts, the lion. Dinner and overnight Mara Sarova Lodge

Optional Nairobi Excursion
|
Most
tourists come to Kenya for a close encounter with African wildlife- and
you don’t get much closer than being kissed by a Giraffe. This is a
common occurrence at the Giraffe Centre, a conservation and education
center located just outside Nairobi, where visitors learn about these
gentle giants through intimate experience. Today the Giraffe center remains a breeding
center and even
more importantly, an education center for the public. A well crafted
information center teaches visitors all they need to know about giraffes
and their conservation, while a nature trail through the surrounding dry
upland forest lets them explore typical giraffe habitat.
But the real attraction here are the giraffes themselves, and no visitor
to the center will come away without having gained a very personal
experience of the world’s tallest animals.
Specially designed wooden platforms mean guests will find themselves eye
to eye with members of the resident herds. On arrival, everyone is given
a handful of special “giraffe treats’ which are very popular with
the more sociable herd members.
Hand feeding a giraffe lets you discover the remarkably gentle nature of
these huge creatures. Giraffes are herbivores who feed almost
exclusively on leaves, which they pluck not with their teeth, but with a
long, prehensile tongue.
The giraffes at the center are so at ease with their human visitors that
they will happily eat from your hand, or if you’d like, from between
your lips with a soft lingering kiss.
Beneath the giraffes, family groups of warthog laze in the sun and take
advantage of the occasional dropped treat.
