Let’s say you want to buy a set of plane tickets to go on vacation somewhere with your sweetie. Arriving at your friendly travel agent (or even booking on the internet) you tell them your names Billy and Lou Smith. You are issued tickets in the names that you have given, and on the day of the trip you go to the airport for the flight and guess what? Your real names according to the identification that you are required to have says your names are William Smith and Louise Smith. You are denied boarding and the airlines will not re-issue the tickets unless you pay a hefty change fee or give you a refund. In many cases you have to buy brand new tickets. Your airline may sympathize, but it won’t let you transfer the ticket to another name — even if you paid for it. The reason? Well, air carriers claim that they prohibit name changes because they’re worried about security and potential fraud. And if you booked at your local travel agent and you go to them for some help, realize that they can not do anything for you, it is in the airlines hands
